Acquired competences

● students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of the peculiarities of operation and design of fuel system elements of modern marine internal combustion engines.

Learning outcomes

● knowledge of the peculiarities of using different types of fuels in marine internal combustion engines;● knowledge of the design features of the fuel equipment of marine internal combustion engines;● ability to select the optimal fuel system equipment depending on different operating conditions.

Programme of the academic discipline

Module 1.

Content module 1: General issues of fuel use in marine internal combustion engines.

Topic 1: Types of fuels used in marine internal combustion engines.
Topic 2. General characteristics of fuel systems of marine internal combustion engines.
Topic 3: Main performance indicators of fuel equipment.

Content module 2: Features of the design and operation of fuel equipment of marine internal combustion engines.

Topic 4. Fuel equipment of direct injection systems.
Topic 5. Fuel equipment of hydraulically operated systems.
Topic 6. Fuel equipment of Common Rail systems.
Topic 7. Fuel equipment of marine internal combustion engines using gaseous fuel.

Topics of practical classes

● Determination of fuel grade for marine internal combustion engines under different operating conditions● Determination of the type of composition of the fuel system of a marine engine
● Fuel injection and spraying processes in marine internal combustion engines
● Design and operation of fuel equipment for direct injection systems● Design and operation of fuel equipment for hydraulically operated systems● Design and operation of fuel systems for Common Rail systems● Design and operation of fuel systems with gaseous fuels
