Regulations on the Department of Internal Combustion Engines, Plants and Technical Maintance of the National University of Shipbuilding

Department of Internal Combustion Engines, Plants and Technical Maintance MEESI NUOS

is one of the oldest departments of the university and trains specialists who are able to design, manufacture, operate and repair the entire range of internal combustion engines and power equipment at the modern level

The Department of ICE ensures the operation of power plants for various purposes:

automotive, aviation, diesel locomotive, stationary and marine

Internal combustion engines and power plants based on them

are used in various sectors of the national economy of Ukraine and around the world. The Department of Internal Combustion Engines maintains close business relations with leading engine companies, such as MAN B&W, SKL, MTU, Detroit Diesel, Rotax Bombardier, Cummins Engines Inc, which allows us to receive information about the latest achievements in the field of engine building.

The department provides training in
in
25 academic disciplines
in the following specialities:

G11 "Mechanical engineering"
J5 "Maritime and inland water transport"

The department is located in the Old Academic Building of the NUOS, 5 Kovalska St.

Partially (one of the laboratories) in the Main Building (9 Heroiv Ukrainy Ave.). The department has the largest laboratory base in the university. The main laboratory has two levels.
On the ground floor, there are 9 stands with internal combustion engines with a capacity of 4 to 700 kW, where laboratory classes with students are held and scientific research is carried out. All stands are equipped with modern control and measuring equipment, sensors and devices. There are also stands for testing diesel fuel equipment, as well as laboratory stands with a reciprocating compressor and a diesel compressor.

In the basement, there are laboratory benches for testing various types of pumps and compressors. In the main building, the department has a specialised laboratory of advanced energy technologies, which carries out self-supporting and state budget research and development work and works on international grants.

The department's lecturers are supervisors and consultants for postgraduate and doctoral students. The efforts of the team are aimed at training scientific and pedagogical staff for higher education, research institutions and industry. In recent years, three doctoral dissertations (Associate Professor M. Tkach, Associate Professor O. Mitrofanov, Associate Professor D. Minchev) and ten PhD theses (D. Minchev, O. Gogorenko, O. Mytrofanov, A. Nahirnyi, A. Proskurin, A. Poznanskyi, Y. Halynkin, D. Shalapko), including by Vietnamese citizens - Vu Duc Bao and Bui Anh Thi.

In recent years, the Department's lecturers and postgraduate students have published more than 50 articles in specialised journals and received about 10 patents of Ukraine. One monograph and one popular science publication were published.

Every two years, the Department of Internal Combustion Engines together with the Department of Turbines holds international scientific and technical conferences ‘Current State and Problems of Engine Building’, which, in addition to teachers, postgraduate students, masters and bachelors of these two departments, are attended by well-known specialists from engine-building enterprises of Ukraine, colleagues from other universities, as well as specialists from Germany, the USA, China, Poland, and Bulgaria. In total, more than 500 reports on topical issues of modern engine building were made at such conferences (there were 8 of them).
