Learning outcomes
● search for necessary information in scientific, technical and patent literature, databases, other sources on technologies and processes in the field of power engineering, and on their basis, systematise, analyse and evaluate relevant information.● use modelling methods, as well as methods of experimental research in order to study in detail the heat and mass transfer, hydraulic and other processes that occur in technological equipment and facilities of power engineering.● develop, select and apply effective computational methods for solving complex problems in power engineering.● present the results of research and innovation, clearly and unambiguously communicate their own knowledge, conclusions and arguments to specialists and non-specialists.● to carry out effective protection of intellectual property in the field of power engineering.● to carry out scientific research in the field of power engineering, to select and apply modern technologies, tools and research methods, to argue conclusions, and to provide practical recommendations based on the results of research.
Module 1.
Content module 1: Methodological foundations of scientific research.
Topic 1: General concepts of scientific research. The essence of scientific research. Goals and processes of scientific research. Academic mobility of scientific research and the use of foreign achievements in the methodology of scientific research.
Topic 2. Scientific research as a method of understanding the nature of processes in engines and power equipment. Features of research of processes in the latest thermal engines with new principles of energy conversion.
Topic 3. Empirical research method, advantages and disadvantages. Methods and techniques of theoretical research. Basic principles of planning a theoretical study. System and complex approaches, their features in the study of processes in heat engines.
Topic 4. Methods of searching for scientific and technical solutions in research. Brainstorming and morphological analysis, basic principles (group formation, prohibition of criticism, completeness of analysis, specification of proposed ideas, etc.)
Content module 2: Organisation of scientific research.
Topic 5. The idea of research. Stages of research (organisational, research, generalisation, testing, implementation of research results). Situational analysis, contradictions, reconciliation. Processing and analysis of the results of the experiment, presentation of results.
Topic 6. Mathematical modelling of thermal engines and power equipment, model development, limitations and assumptions about the processes under study, adaptation to real objects and operating conditions. Assessment of accuracy and verification of their adequacy.
Topic 7. Methods and techniques of thermophysical experiment. Use of modern methods of planning experimental studies. Development of a measurement scheme and research methods. Modern means and equipment for measuring and recording results. Evaluation of accuracy, reliability and reliability of results.
Topic 8. Methods and techniques for conducting scientific research on the topic of master's work. Use of software developed at the department and related educational institutions, as well as well-known foreign packages such as AVL, etc. Compliance with the priority areas of science and technology development in Ukraine.
● Basic principles and directions of scientific research of engines and power equipment. Application of academic research mobility and its principles.● Mastering the basics of scientific research methods in the field of internal combustion engines. Familiarisation and identification of the features of processes in thermal engines with new principles of energy conversion.● Study of methods of theoretical research of engines and power equipment (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, comparison, formalisation, abstraction, modelling).● Mastering the skills of brainstorming and morphological analysis using examples of processes occurring in thermal engines and their individual elements.● Examples of processing and analysing the results of an experimental study of the workflow in a diesel engine, presenting the results, analysing them and drawing conclusions.● Examples of the development of mathematical models of engine operation, making assumptions and simplifications, using computers, assessing accuracy and checking their adequacy.● Mastering the methods of physical experimentation (full-scale, model, active, passive). Developing a scheme for measuring engine cylinder pressure, temperature, working fluid consumption, etc. Determination of research methods.● Determination of the main areas of research and methods of their implementation on the topics of master's theses in accordance with the actual problems of power engineering.
The achievements of the applicant are assessed according to the 100-point system of the University.
